Andreu Barberá SL recently began a collaboration with the Club de Ajedrez Paterna with the aim of supporting this sport by backing an iconic Paterna club with a long history spanning 60 years.
Andreu Barberá has always been keen to take part in projects that can benefit our community, whether in the cultural, social or sporting sphere, which is why we found the project very attractive. Chess fosters the intellectual and recreational aspects of the individual, encourages socialisation and promotes respect for guidelines and rules among those who play it. These are, therefore, values that tie in with Andreu Barberá’s business philosophy.
Although sporting success was not the main objective of the project, in this case it came immediately. On 9 March, Andreu Paterna was crowned Regional Champion in the División de Honor, the top category of Valencian chess. It did so by securing its ninth victory in the Interclub tournament, with a flawless winning record, which means it is already mathematically champion with two rounds still to go.
After winning this tournament for the third consecutive year, Club Ajedrez Andreu Paterna will face the second major challenge of the season: the Spanish First Division Championship, which will take place in Linares next August. In addition, our club will aim to retain the regional rapid chess title, which will be contested at the end of 2019. There is therefore still an exciting year ahead, in which Paterna has the opportunity to keep making history in Valencian chess and at national level.
At Andreu Barberá, “we congratulate the members of the club who, through their fine work, have achieved this triumph. It is a pleasure to be part of this project and to support, in our town, the promotion of a classic game that embodies a whole philosophy of life and is so beneficial for those who play it. We hope that our contribution will help strengthen the club and enable it to achieve the goals set for the current season”.
