Last May saw the presentation ceremony of the Spanish Architecture Award and the Spanish Urbanism Award, in which Andreu collaborated by sponsoring these awards, granted by the Higher Council of Spanish Architects’ Associations, for excellence in architecture and urban planning.
The winners were the Museum of Royal Collections and the Palma Conference Centre and Hotel, joint winners (ex aequo) of the 2017 Spanish Architecture Award, and the Territorial Plan (PTE) for non-developable land on the coasts of Asturias and the Protection and Rehabilitation Plan of Liérganes, winners of the Spanish Urbanism Award in its first edition.
The ceremony, which took place at the Wanda Metropolitano, Atlético de Madrid’s brand-new stadium, was attended by the Minister of Public Works, Mr Íñigo de la Serna, the Director General of Architecture, Housing and Land, Antonio Aguilar Mediavilla, and the Mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena, among other distinguished figures.
For this special event, the choice of venue was no coincidence. The newly opened Atlético stadium, as a symbolic and representative building, stands out for its architectural values of excellence, quality and habitability.
For the refurbishment of the former La Peineta stadium, Andreu took on the challenge of designing and manufacturing more than 1,500 specially configured fire doors, a real challenge to achieve a solution adapted to the uniqueness of the project, carried out with enormous effort and dedication.
Taking advantage of the occasion, an exhibition of the stadium project itself was also organised by Cruz y Ortiz, the architecture firm behind this demanding project, in which Andreu received a special mention for its involvement.
